History is Herstory: Miss Minnie

America's soul singer Minnie Riperton was specifically known for her five-octave vocal range, and her use of the whistle register. Even to this day, people have tried to master her popular song, "Loving You". Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age, but Ms. Riperton went on to become a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society campaign (1978-79) and was presented with a society Courage Award by President Jimmy Carter in 1977.
